The Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) is one of Australia's most iconic, intelligent, and loud native parrots. Known for their stark white plumage and expressive, bright yellow crests, these birds are as deeply integrated into urban environments as they are in the Australian bush.

Why are they called 'Bikers of the Bush'? They resemble a boisterous biker gang in several distinct ways:

The "Mohawk" Look: Their signature sulphur-yellow crest flips up when they are excited, alarmed, or acting aggressively, closely mimicking a classic punk or biker mohawk haircut.
Deafening Noise: They travel in massive, rowdy flocks. When they fly or gather, they emit ear-piercing, harsh screeches that can completely dominate the soundscape—much like a pack of loud motorcycles rolling through a quiet town.
Property Destruction & Chaos: Armed with incredibly powerful beaks (capable of exerting immense pressure), they act as "agents of chaos". To keep their ever-growing beaks trimmed, they will joyfully chew through wooden house decks, timber panelling, outdoor furniture, and plastic insulation
