"A group of the male Australian Native Blue-banded Bees"
The blue-banded bee is a vibrant native Australian bee, recognised by its dazzling metallic blue stripes on its abdomen. These bees have a fast, darting, and hovering flight pattern, and are therefore difficult to find and photograph. They are often solitary; however, the male bees are known to roost together overnight.
FUN FACT: These non-aggressive bees are known as "buzz pollinators" for native plants and crops like tomatoes, eggplants and kiwi fruit. They grab the flower and vibrate their flight muscles, emitting a high-pitched buzz that releases pollen from the anthers.
