Size: 40" x 30" - 101cm x 76cm
The Little Kingfisher (Ceyx pusillus) is Australia's smallest kingfisher. Measuring just 11 to 13 cm in length and weighing a mere 10 to 15 grams, it features striking, glossy ultramarine-blue plumage offset by a snowy-white breast. It is primarily found in the coastal waterways and mangroves of northern Australia.
Usually solitary, unobtrusive and sedentary in remote habitats, it is rarely seen.It is confined to streamside vegetation and spends much time perched on low branches over the water. It looks down fixedly, occasionally bobbing its head as it waits for its prey - tiny fish, crustaceans and aquatic insects. It dives to seize prey and returns to the perch to eat it there. The Little Kingfisher flies fast.
