"A pair of the Australian native Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos"
This artwork showcases the stunning white layering of feathers and the distinctive yellow crest of the iconic Sulphur-Crested cockatoo. The birds' whites stand out beautifully against the checkered textures of the moss-green and olive background.
The birds appear to be safely nestled high up in the Eucalyptus branches, in their own reverie, whilst instinctively on the lookout for dangers that might impact their clan.
These cockatoos have a clever natural alarm system that allows them to feed on the ground in peace, with at least one bird perched within a nearby tree to keep watch over the others. If the lookout bird senses a predator nearby or that danger is imminent, it will let out an almighty screech, alerting the feeding birds to take flight.
They can live around 40 years, but can live up to 100 years in captivity.
